Improved North Sea emergency response
BP, Talisman, and Stavanger-based shipping company Møkster have joined forces to better routines for oil sector-related crises in the North Sea.
Møkster’s “Stril Mariner” site emergency response vessel will be responsible for fire, rescue, and oil spills, amongst other things.
The move will mean coverage for oil fields in the southernmost sector of the North Sea, including Valhall, Hod, Gyda, Ula, Tambar, Yme, and Varge, beginning May.
According to a three-company joint statement, “oil booms and skimmers will be permanently installed on the ship to avoid mobilisation time and provide faster response”.
The ship will also be equipped with a heavy skiff (daughter craft) that can be launched quickly. This will hold one end of the oil booms when they are in the water to catch any spills.
“Stril Mariner” will be modified at Simek’s shipyard in Flekkefjord at a cost of approximately 40 million kroner.
The contract will run for more than four years, with the possibility of a further four-year extension.
