“Should hydrocarbons be discovered in Faroe waters, I have no doubts that many international oil companies will come to the Faroes”, says the American ambassador to Denmark, Mrs. Laurie Fulton, according to Oljan.fo.
Faroe expert geophysicist, Mr Heri Ziska explained the American ambassador that there are good opportunities for making large-scale discoveries in Faroe waters, but he did not nor try to hide the ever present fact of the large associated risk attached, as so few wells had yet been drilled.
He said it was very beneficial for exploration in the Faroes, that such a large technically and financially strong company like ExxonMobil had come to the Faroes and was supporting the very important work being done by Statoil.
Several companies
The website reports that the American ambassador was very pleased to see that American oil companies were taking an interest in the Faroes. She had no doubts that in the event hydrocarbons were discovered in commercial quantities, hopefully in the Brugdan 2 well currently being drilled, many international oil companies would come to the Faroes.
Apart from ExxonMobil, several other American oil companies have been involved in the exploration of the Faroes. Amerada Hess was one of the very first to take an interest in the Faroes, but also Anadarko, Phillips, Conoco, Texaco and Chevron have all participated in the exploration of the Faroes.
