Public prosecutors in Rogaland have now made a formal prosecution case for abduction, after the 41-year old in February took the seven-year old with him to Romania.
This is confirmed by the public prosecutor, Ann-Bjørg Ingebrigtsen of Rogaland police district.
Long-term battle
The divorced father and mother of the child have been in conflict with each other for several years over the question of child custody. Gulating Appeal Court has previously established that the mother should have chief custody for the seven-year old, but the father thinks she is not capable of caring for the child.
In April, the mother went to Romania and fetched the child, without the father knowing about it.
The Romanian citizen was sentenced to four more weeks in police custody by Jæren district court. The court thinks there is a danger that the 41-year old would try to escape from Norway before the case against him is tried on 30th December.
Child Welfare Service
At the same time, the mother is now being investigated for kidnapping, after she was arrested in Oslo a few days ago. She has been released, but the seven-year old is now in the care of the Child Welfare Service.
"I have registered that the cases against my client and the child's mother are judged differently. She has herself done that which the 41-year old is accused of, but she is free, whilst he is in police custody," says the father's lawyer, Tone Linn Thingvold to Aftenbladet.no.
