Dreams of establishing a national centre for developing offshore wind power technology in the region have lain dormant since 2009, until now.
Marint Energi Testsenter’s (MET) general manager, Arvid Nesse, tells Aftenbladet, “We want to act as a magnet for those with similar ambitions.”
MET, who have applied for concession to erect two floating turbines near Hywind, also signed a deal with wind power company Sway representatives in April 2010 who want to test out their own technological solution. This means a total of three new wind turbines could be a reality.
“Floating wind power has the largest market potential, worldwide. We hope the first contract will be in place this year. Sway will connect to the cable in the course of 2013,” Mr Nesse concludes.
